Why I am Taking My Family to iRetreat 2014
I can’t believe that we leave in 12 hours and I am not ready to leave. Okay, I can believe it. I have turned into a last minute packer. It drives my daughter nuts but I find I pack way less stuff and only what I need when I pack at the last minute so that is how I have started packing.
We are heading out bright and early so we can get a jump start on traffic as we head from Michigan to Pennsylvania. It will be a nice days drive but we should arrive just in time to find a nice restaurant for dinner and let the kids get a swim in while we unpack and unwind.
iRetreat 2014 doesn’t start until Sunday afternoon so we are going to spend some family time Sunday morning visiting the Hershey Museum and the Gardens before it is time for me to check in. Then I will send my family off to explore well I get to connect with bloggers from across the country and make connections in person instead of online.
My mom is traveling with us because we love spending time with her so she will be able to keep my husband and kids in line so they don’t wreck havoc on the city while I am attending iRetreat 2014. Monday kicks off bright and early so my husband will drop me off while they sleep in and then return to wake them up for a day at the zoo. While they are hanging out with the animals I will have my learning hat on and be connecting with brands and more blogger friends. I also heard there is a lot of chocolate. We are in Hershey, Pennsylvania after all.
If anyone is up when I make it back from the conference Monday night, I might take a late night swim with them before bedtime. Tuesday we will be heading home after my conference ends around lunch time so they will enjoy the hotel pool and a late breakfast. We will make our journey back home the way we came but the trip won’t be the same.
Some people wonder why I want to bring my family on such short trips but I enjoy spending as much time with my family as possible. Plus we get to enjoy new places together and every trip becomes an adventures and every adventure creates memories. Memories that will last for years to come. Memories my children will tell their children years later. That is why tomorrow morning we will load up and make the trip. There may be fights and tense moments but there will be laughter, joy, awkward moments and plenty of awkward moments. Some of those might even come from my time at iRetreat 2014.
In the end what matters is time spent apart can never be gotten back and time spent together can never be lost.I would rather have something I cannot lose than something I cannot gain.
