Everywhere you go during the holiday season sparkles and shines with festive colors and treats. I recently received a box of candy goodness from SweetWorks Candy and couldn’t wait to see what surprises waited me inside. The candy was so perfect that I just wanted to “Deck the Halls” with sugary goodness. After showing my daughter our treasures from SweetWorks we were inspired to create a North Pole display to welcome guests over the holiday season.
Our North Pole candy display would be complete with a cottage for Santa and Mrs. Claus. As we know my days are crazy busy and I didn’t see baking gingerbread walls in my immediate future so we got creative and created a simple cottage that you can make in about 30 minutes (no baking required.) Plus it was a breeze to decorate with SweetWorks candies. So get ready to make Santa’s cottage and see how we decorated our North Pole getaway with SweetWorks.
SweetWorks North Pole Cottage
Small Square Shaped Box (I used a large Gogurt box but you could also use a Goldfish or similar box)
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
2 bags of Pretzels
1 pack of Graham Crackers
SweetWorks Candy for decorating
Measure box and make marks on all sides at the height you want the box to be. I went with 6 inches. Make sure to measure from the closed end of the box because that will be your top/roof.
Connect the marks so you know where to begin cutting. Proceed with a box cutter or scissors and cut the excess edges from the box.
Lay box on its side and lay out pretzels so you know how many you need for each side. (This is where you can get creative, if you have a wide box you can layer them like a log cabin cutting off edges of pretzels to fit. For ours we went upwards using the tops to help balance the roof.)
Glue the pretzels to the box on all 4 sides. You will end up with gaps at the corners. Leave these till the end and then go back and glue in 4 pretzels.
Take 2 graham crackers and glue them together forming a V shape. One edge on top of the other. Glue the bottom sides to the top of the box. Repeat with another 2 crackers to form the roof.
Use batting or other white material under the graham crackers so you don’t see the box.
Frost the roof and decorate with SweetWorks candy.
Use remaining graham crackers to create doors and windows. Decorate with frosting and SweetWorks candy (Pearls and small candy pieces work best.) Glue these to the pretzel house with the hot glue gun.
Secure Sixlets Candy Canes to the house with hot glue gun placing one on each corner.
**Decorate as much or as little as you want, we went with a basic look because my daughter said Santa doesn’t like too many decorations**
SweetWorks Candy Display Tips
Use clear glass jars to display gumballs, chocolate candies and other loose candies.
Use what you have to create serving dishes. I love using measuring cups (I have a glass Christmas set, I picked up on clearance just for displaying), wine glasses, sugar bowls, and candle holders to hold small candies. Mix up the colors and display several designs and types to create a more festive display.
Use white batting or cotton fill to form a base for your display. This is perfect all winter as it resembles freshly fallen snow.
Display large candy pieces such as Chocolate Soldiers, Reindeer, Santas and more, standing up. You can use a small piece of tape to secure them to the solid surface and cover up with batting.
Place wrapped small candies through out the display to fill in the blank spaces. Make sure to also display some in a container so people know they can eat them.
Get Creative, everything usually has more than one purpose so when you run out of containers, take a look around and you will be surprised what you can find. Don’t let yourself be limited, use your imagination and watch the festiveness unfold.
SweetWorks candy is perfect for the holidays and every day of the year because they offer several different products including Sixlets, Pressed Products (think decorating pearls or tiny candy shapes for cupcakes), Niagara Chocolates ( from chocolate bars to the popular Ovation Chocolates that you break and eat like an orange), Jawbreakers and Gumballs. They make sure to offer all their sweet treats in different shapes, sizes and colors to coordinate with the holidays,so it was a breeze decorating our North Pole display. Many of Sweetworks candies are Gluten Free and Nut Free, this makes them a perfect choice when you don’t know about food allergies.
