Instant Family Movie Review
Inspired by real events, Instant Family takes an honest look at what it takes for all parties involved when couples/families agree to become foster parents. The struggle is not only one felt by the children coming into the house but by the family that they are joining. Writer/Director, Sean Anders shares his own struggles and triumphs in this film that will make you laugh and make you cry.
When Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) decide to start a family, they stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15 year old girl (Isabela Moner), they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight. Now, Pete and Ellie must hilariously try to learn the ropes of instant parenthood in the hopes of becoming a family.
We were able to send two of our reviewers to see this film prior to its release and we do want to caution that there are some adult themes, sexual content, and swearing. For more information on these elements of the film, you can check out the reviews and information at Common Sense Media .
With those factors aside one of our reviewers had the following to say about the film:
Despite the swear words that really weren’t necessary, the movie was awesome. It had a great message that made you laugh and made you cry! I think some people may be more motivated to become a foster parent. Also, at the same time I think those who don’t feel the challenge ,to be a foster parent, definitely will have more empathy and think twice before they criticize someone else who has chosen to become a foster parent or to adopt!!
Instant Family, does a wonderful job at portraying the difficulties that come when fostering and these issues are important for anyone who is considering fostering to know. Even with these difficulties, it does a great job showcasing the benefits as well and I hope that this compels more people to become foster parents, due to the tremendous need in every state and area.
