Great Smoky Mountain Murder Mystery Dinner Show Review
Since moving to East Tennessee last year, we have enjoyed discovering the numerous things to do both indoors and outdoors. Recently, we had the chance to enjoy our first murder mystery dinner show at the Great Smoky Mountain Murder Mystery Dinner Show. It is located near “The Island” in Pigeon Forge and was the perfect excuse for a date night with friends. They offer a few different murder mystery dinner shows and this season they are showcasing The Killbillies, Frankly Scarlet Your Dead, and The Moonshine Murders.
The murder mystery dinner show that we attended was The Moonshine Murders. It is a hilarious take reminiscent of The Dukes of Hazzard. A murder mystery dinner show is a dinner theater where you enjoy a play while eating a delicious meal and have a chance at solving the murder mystery.
One of the things that we enjoyed about the show was that we were served our food in between acts of play so you didn’t have to try and stay focused while eating your food at the same time. Our meal started off with a choice of 3 soups, before the play began. While we were waiting for it to start we had a chance to collect clues from a mystery clue sheet we were given when we were seated. It contained fun word games/puzzles that when solved resulted in a clue. Our main dish offered pork tenderloin and chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and a dinner roll. Our meal finished off with a delicious cheesecake with a choice of 3 toppings. Soft Drinks, Coffee, Tea and Water are provided with the meal. For those with dietary restrictions, they do offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
There is no bad seat in the house as all the tables are focused around the main area where most of the play takes place. They also do move about the room as they interact with members of the audience. Before the show begins they select certain audience members to play characters in the play. These audience members are given props and a script with their lines. This is optional and you do not have to participate if you don’t want to. Our friend was selected to participate (Hooter, a woman in Sevier County with a crush on Duke) and being the good sport that he is, he obliged. I must say he gave the part his all and quickly became a popular character with the cast.
When we arrived they took our group pictures and we had the chance to purchase them at the end of the show. You also have the option of purchasing a disk of photos highlighting the evening. The photos are taken by the cast during the show as no outside cameras are allowed during the show. I purchased both sets of photos because I wanted to share them with you all and it is always a fun way to look back on your night at the Great Smoky Mountain Murder Mystery Dinner Show.
We had an absolute blast and still enjoy teasing our friend about his amazing portrayal of Hooter. I would love to go back and see the other two shows and we will be making plans to visit again really soon. It was a night of good food, laughs, and entertainment.

What a great event! I wonder if the characters also underwent training to act and fulfill their part. I have attended a similar live adventure and tried to discover the mystery of a crime scene.
From their bios, they all have had theater experience and most of the shows are written by them.
My husband and I try to get to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area at least once a year. We’ve heard about his, but have yet to experience it ourselves. After reading this, I cannot wait to go! It looks like you all had a great time!
I am so jealous…I have ALWAYS wanted to do a murder mystery dinner!! We’ve had a few where I live but I always find out after the fact. They seem so fun!
I have always wanted to go to a Mystery Dinner Show! Such a great way to spend an evening with friends and make the most out of the time you spend eating dinner. Looks like you and your friends had a great time! The picture of your friend as Hooter cracks me up!
What a fun and exciting way to spend the night. This is right up my ally as to something I would love to do. Plus you make it look even more fun with all the pictures.
They have a show like that here in Atlanta that I haven’t been too. I need to go because it would be a great night out and something different besides a movie and dinner.
