Finding Great Toys For Special Needs Children During The Holidays

The holidays are upon us, can you believe it!? Now is the time to start thinking about what awesome gifts to get our families and friends right!? Sometimes we might have a child with special needs on our shopping list and we have to hunt for great gifts for them. This year my daughter got diagnosed with Sensory Processes Disorder, or SPD. What this means is that she processes certain things differently than other children might. Because of this disorder I try to make sure I get toys that will not only be fun for her, but will help her with her disorder. One of the area she struggles with is motor skills and low muscle tone. So this holiday season when I’m looking for the perfect gift for my daughter, I look for toys that will help her build those skills she lack. Fat Brain Toys is one of my favorite resources for toys that are fun and educational and I wanted to share with you some great toy choices for special needs children! Fat Brain Toys makes it easy to find great toys for your special need child because for over three years, Fat Brain Toys has been collecting valuable feedback from their customers on how their toys are being used by children with special needs. Their mission is to provide a comprehensive resource where caregivers of individuals with special needs can go to find information on developmentally appropriate toys, games and tools. Here are some of my favorite toys from Fat Brain Toys this year:
Brain Food– This is a a fun putty that will not only keep your little one entertained (because who doesn’t love colorful, squishy stuff to play with right!?) but it will also help build up those hand muscles!
Balancing Monkeys– This is a great toy for problems solving and fine motor skills, and it is just adorable!
Boogie Board– We personally have one of these and LOVE it. My daughter has a lot of trouble with her hand writing so we practice whenever we can. With the boogie board you don’t waste paper and you make make new designs over and over!
Kimochis Mini Mixed Feelings Bag– This is a fantastic idea for kids that might have trouble expressing their feelings. They can use these cute little plush feelings to help communicate with you!
Lincoln Logs– A classic (and awesome) toy for all types of kids, Lincoln Logs are great for motor skills, problem solving, and for fidgety hands!
So there you have it, 5 great toys from Fat Brain Toys that would be awesome for the special needs child in your life this holiday season! Make sure to visit the Fat Brain Toy Website for thousands of other great toys this holiday season!
