Exclusive Interview With Sarah Gilman on Release of
Daphne & Velma on Blu-Ray & DVD
I have been a huge fan of Scooby Doo and the Gang for as long as I can remember. This is a love that has been passed down to my children and my niece and nephew. This love for mystery solving and hi-jinks, is what led to my excitement with the release of the new movie, Daphne & Velma.
Daphne & Velma takes us on a mystery adventure with our two favorite female sleuths before they met Scooby and the gang. This live-action feature length film is produced by Ashley and Jennifer Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions. It stars Sarah Jeffery (Disney’s “Descendants: Wicked World”) as Daphne and Sarah Gilman (ABC’s “Last Man Standing”) as Velma.
I recently had the opportunity to be apart of an exclusive blogger interview with Sarah Gilman. She joined us to talk about her experience playing the iconic role of Velma in the new film. I am excited to share that information with you today, as well as give one lucky reader a chance to win a copy of Daphne & Velma on Blu-Ray.

Interview with Sarah Gilman
Sarah Gilman may only be 22 years old but this actress understands the importance of showing girls a positive role model. This is one of the things that attracted her to the role of Velma in the new film. She wants girls of all ages to know that they are strong on their own and don’t need boys to fight their battles. She hopes that watching Velma and Daphne solve the mystery on their own will allow them to see that females can be courageous and take the lead.
She was very excited to be able to do a fight scene in the movie not only because it was fun but it allows girls to see they don’t need to stand by and be the “damsel in distress.” She does think that boys will still enjoy seeing the film, just as girls watch movies with boys as the lead characters. It is just as important for boys to know that girls are capable as well as girls knowing that fact.
She has been a life long Scooby Doo fan, like so many of us, and was excited to have the chance to play the role of Velma. Her favorite characters from the original series include Velma, Shaggy, and of course Scooby Doo. However, she most identifies with Velma and found it easy to slip into character. She felt at times that her and Velma were one and liked that Velma is so similar to herself.
The movie was shot in an actual high school after hours (5 pm- 5 am) and filming took 17 days. Sarah has mainly done Television or Theater so it took some adapting to get used to the pace and atmosphere. Unlike television, movies do not have rehearsal days to block out scenes and go over lines. This means that lines need to be memorized ahead of time so that the character attributes can shine through when filming. These long nights led to many of the cast and crew being tired and wore out at times. To help brighten everyone’s spirits and wake them up, the two “Sarahs” would run around and wake everyone up.
One of the most drastic things that she had to do to prepare for the movie was to cut her hair into the “Velma” Hairdo. This was a dramatic change because her hair was down to her waist. To help her embody the character of Velma, she also tried on the wardrobe to get into the style of Velma and become the character.
Seeing as Sarah identified with Velma in the film, we asked her about her true-life friendship compared with Velma and Daphne’s friendship. She let us know that just like in the movie, opposites attract in real life also. Although she shares common interests with her best friend, they are also opposites and that allows them to compliment each other in many ways. This is true in many friendships, and having friends who are not exact copies of ourselves allows us to balance each other out and help each other experience things they might not on their own.
Take a deeper look at Velma and Daphne’s unique friendship (and their unique mystery solving skills) in the new movie, Daphne & Velma available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and Digital NOW!
