I received a copy of THE LION KING to facilitate this post. However, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own!
Celebrating Family With The Lion King
The Lion King has always held a special place in my heart and the heart of my family. Back in 1995, it was my cousin’s favorite movie. He was 2 years old and fighting cancer. I can’t tell you how many times he watched that movie but I will always remember the Thanksgiving of that year. We laid on the floor in my parent’s house and watched it together. The movie was also a favorite of mine and Pumba is my spirit animal. That day would be one of the last times we would be together but I never cease to think about him when I hear “The Circle of Life” or “Hakuna Matata”.
A few weeks ago when my daughter reminded me she had never seen the film and I realized how my memories had let her miss out on a fabulous story about family, trials, and dealing with loss. I knew that we needed to change that and the release of The Lion King as part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection was the perfect excuse to proclaim family movie night.
My daughter loved the movie and I have to say watching it with her made me remember the good times with my cousin. Today, when I think about The Lion King, my feelings are different than before because I remember we need to celebrate all of our family. Disney always does a great job at incorporating the theme of family into their films and The Lion King is no exception. In The Lion King we see the loyalty of family as Simba returns to Pride Rock and also how family isn’t just made up of our blood relatives. Family comes in many forms and often times we find family in our friends that we are closest to. These are the things I want my daughter to remember and hold near because they are such a true testament to the relationships she will form in live.
We spent a while after watching the movie checking out all the great bonus content that is on the Walt Disney Signature Collection edition. Our favorite was the Sing-Along Version, even though my husband may be growing weary of our “Hakuna Matata” and “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” duets.
Other great bonus content include the following :
The Recording Sessions – Enter the recording booth and watch never-before-seen recording sessions
Inside the Story Room – Rare archival footage which shows the origins of the five iconic scenes.
Visualizing A Villain – Performance Artist David Garibaldi creates his own unique interpretation of the iconic villain, Scar.
Limited Edition Film Frames
