Breakthrough Movie Review
We have been wanting to see the new film, BREAKTHROUGH, since we watched the first movie trailer and with less than two weeks before it opens in theaters we sent two of our favorite reviewers to check it out at a local screening. The film tells the inspirational true story of one mother’s unfaltering love in the face of impossible odds and her faith that God was still in the miracle business. The film comes out a few days before Easter and is a wonderful reminder that God is working in hearts and minds today.
Be warned this is a tear-jerker and our reviewers recommend making sure you bring enough tissues for you and the person sitting next you. As Christians we often find it hard to see God’s hand in the world around us because of all the heartbreak, sin, and devastation. BREAKTHROUGH is the reminder we need that God IS still in the miracle business. The movie serves as a reminder to not give up the faith and to not lose hope even in the darkest situations.
The movie tells the story of when Joyce Smith’s adopted son John falls through an icy Missouri lake, all hope seems lost. But as John lies lifeless, Joyce refuses to give up. Her steadfast belief inspires those around her to continue to pray for John’s recovery, even in the face of every case history and scientific prediction. From producer DeVon Franklin (Miracles from Heaven) and adapted for the screen by Grant Nieporte (Seven Pounds) from Joyce Smith’s own book, BREAKTHROUGH is an enthralling reminder that faith and love can create a mountain of hope, and sometimes even a miracle. It stars Chrissy Metz, Josh Lucas, Topher Grace, Mike Colter, Marcel Ruiz, Sam Trammell and Dennis Haysbert.
The whole cast does an extraordinary job telling the story and Chrissy Metz does a phenomenal job portraying Joyce Smith. Her performance evokes feelings of sorrow, hope, and love as we watch her fight for her son’s life and recovery. Our reviewers also tell us that they want to see the film again once it is released this month and highly recommend the film for anyone looking for a heartwarming story of faith, hope, and love.
