Fun Fall Things to do in Knoxville
We have lived in Knoxville,TN now for over three years and have fallen in love from day one. There is so much to see and do here in the Knoxville area that I have decided to start doing a “Best of Knoxville” series highlighting all that makes the area unique and inviting. I am starting off the series today with Fun Fall Thing to do in Knoxville but honestly these activities are fun to do anytime of the year.
As the weather begins to slightly cool down during the Fall season in Knoxville it is a great opportunity to get out and explore the downtown area. One of my favorite ways to do this is with a Food Tour hosted by East TN Tours. We recently had another opportunity to explore the fantastic culinary side of the downtown area. I say another as we have taken this extraordinary food tour on two other occasions. You can read about these adventures in our posts Culinary Adventures in Knoxville With East Tn Tours and 5 Reasons to Take a Food Tour for a Girl’s Day.
East Tn Tours offers two unique food tours. You can choose from the Chef’s Table Tour (which is offered Friday and Saturday afternoons ) or the Bountiful Brunch Tour (which is offered on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the month.) Both food tour options provide a truly unique culinary exploration of downtown restaurants that highlight their best dishes. Lauren, the owner and tour guide of East TN Tours, is constantly working with new restaurants and this results is a unique tour each time that you it. This proved true once again during our recent (and third) tour a few weeks ago.
During our tour we visited 5 restaurants and dined on a wide variety while exploring the sights and sounds of the city. It is hard to find words to describe each and every bite that we enjoyed so I have selected my favorite photos of the food we enjoyed to share with you during this post. Each photo in the post was taken by myself or East TN Tours.
Each tour begins at Visit Knoxville, the downtown Knoxville visitor’s center. It is a great place to stop if you are new to the area and/or are looking for some local items to shop for. From there you head as a group to each restaurant on the tour. Between stops, Lauren highlights historical buildings, new establishments, and fun facts about the area. If you are interested in seeing what it looked like in the past, make sure to ask to see the amazing pictures she has collated of the old historic market square.
As part of the tour, you also receive special discounts and deals from local businesses so make sure you check those out as well. Through these deals and discounts you are able to experience other amazing Knoxville establishments like The Phoenix Pharmacy and Fountain, East TN History Center/Museum, Maple Hall Bowling Alley, and Knox Whiskey Works.
Plus after taking three food tours with East TN Tours, I can say with great authority that you don’t have to worry about not getting enough to eat. Each restaurant provides you with the perfect amount of food (if not more) to fill you up and you can always take home what you don’t finish. On each of tours I have taken, I was so full by the last stop that I took home the amazing desserts from our last stop at Sugar Mama’s and enjoyed them when I got home. Unfortunately, that meant I had to share them with my family so you might want to hide them if that is what you do.
The most recent food tour included stops at Café Vicolo, Clancy’s Tavern and Whiskey House, Balter Beerworks, Boyd’s Jig and Reel, and Sugar Mama’s. Each stop offers a unique culinary experience and each are locally owned and operated businesses.
Which leads me to another thing that I love about East TN Tours. The restaurants and businesses you will visit on the food tour are all local to the area. This helps to promote those that are serving and giving back to the community daily. Many of these businesses also rely on other local businesses as their source of food and beverages. By supporting these restaurants you create the domino effect of supporting other local businesses and thereby supporting the local economy.
I also am excited to share with you that two new tours are also coming to East TN Tours. Soon you will be able to take a Monday Night Mixed Drink Tour (which will also include small plates of food) and a Wednesday Wine and Dine Tour. These two new tours will offer another unique way to explore the downtown area and introduce guests to a different side of the city that is growing in leaps and bounds.
If something more active is your thing, then you will want to check out this other amazing Fall activity that is offered in the downtown Knoxville area. Seek Knoxville offers the first locally run and operated scavenger hunt business in the city. It is owned by Lauren at East TN Tours and allows guests to enjoy a unique self-guided tour of the downtown area following the clues provided in the scavenger hunt. No matter if you are a newbie to Knoxville or a long term resident, everyone will enjoy the adventure of exploring the amazing downtown area and finding the final stop.
Seek Knoxville can be enjoyed with groups of all ages. It is a fun event to commemorate a bachelor/bachelorette party, team building event, or group dates. Teens will enjoy the downtown scavenger hunt as a fun activity with their school clubs, youth groups, or as a unique way to celebrate a birthday. Groups of all sizes will enjoy the friendly competition to see who makes it to the end first. During the 2018 Fall School Break, you can even take advantage of “Pick Your Time” specials, which allow you to set the date and time of your scavenger hunt. Learn more about these specials HERE.
Seek Knoxville normally runs scavenger hunts Friday, Saturday, and Sunday each week but if you are looking to book a group event, reach out as they are willing to accommodate most requests as long as their schedule allows it. There is never a bad time to learn about the downtown area and all the unique spots that make it a true gem to the city of Knoxville.
These two activities provide hours of enjoyment and are a great way to connect with the area you are visiting (or live in) while discovering the cuisine, landmarks, and history of the downtown Knoxville area. The area has changed over the years and both of these opportunities provide you the chance to enjoy the Fall season and the area.
