Beat The Winter Blues at Wilderness at the Smokies
The winter weather can leave you feeling cooped up and wishing for summer to come. This is hard parents and children who just can’t wait to get out and enjoy the warmer weather. Instead of driving each other bonkers, beat the winter blues and get away for a vacation at Wilderness at the Smokies. A week ago, my family had the pleasure of leaving the cold behind and heading out for a little vacation of our own at this wonderful hotel and indoor waterpark.
From the moment we checked in we were made to feel at home by the staff and even got to pose for pictures with Monty and Molly, Wilderness at the Smokies mascots. We ran into them a few times during our stay and it is fun to see them interact with the kids, no matter how old they are.
We stayed in the Bunk Suite, which has a queen bed for the parents and a set of bunk beds for the kids. The best part is the wall divider between the beds so everyone can enjoy a little bit of privacy during their downtime. The bathroom is also divided with the sink separate from the toilet and shower. This is a plus when you are sharing a bathroom with multiple people. It also allowed for a large counter where we could all the stuff that comes from traveling with 3 females.
My daughter brought a friend and the girls could not wait to get down to the indoor waterpark. During the cold months, this is the waterpark that is open but during the warm months they also have 2 outdoor waterparks for even more water fun. There is plenty of fun to be had in the indoor waterpark starting with the indoor pool. The waterpark also has a wave pool, several water slides, a surf rider, area for young children, and a hot tub with indoor and outdoor seating.
When they weren’t fighting the waves at The Great Wave, they could be found running through Washout Mountain. It is a multi-level adventure playland with water cannons, slides, and a huge bucket that dumps water. Every kid goes running when the bell rings to stand under the giant rush of water.
Beating the winter blues at Wilderness at the Smokies doesn’t just include water fun. When the kids gets a little water logged they can dry off and enjoy the onsite arcade, adventure forest, miniature golf and even pain pottery at Polka Dot Pots. This is great for families who are escaping winter because you can enjoy your vacation without ever getting in the car to go somewhere else.
There are several dining options including sit down restaurants and walk up snack bars. If you don’t want to leave your room, you can order in room service. They have a wonderful gift shop full of fun items for both parents and children. If you have a sweet tooth like we do, then you will want to make sure you stop by and get yourself some sweet treats at the Mountain Marketplace. From bulk candy to fudge, they have everything you need to satisfy your craving.
We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our break from the cold winter blues. The kids were so busy each day that they slept soundly for several nights after. If you are looking to beat the winter blues or get away for a fun family vacation make sure to visit Wilderness at the Smokies. Your children will thank you and you may even be able to get some extra chores out of them for a few weeks.

I love the fact the Bunk Suite has a divider wall so everyone can do their thing. The kids look like they were enjoying swimming in the winter so much. What fun.
That pool looks so inviting! I love the idea of the bunk suite – what a wonderful way for a family to enjoy a weekend away! The hubby and I spent some time in the Smoky Mountains when we were traveling and it is so beautiful there.
Sounds like a family friendly way to beat the winter blahs in setting my family would enjoy. Not to mention a fantastic way to burn excess winter energy.
We love the Smokey Mountains. We’ve been there several times, but we’ve only stayed in private cabins. I think this is the way we’re going to do it next time.
That place looks awesome! We are always looking for fun new ways to cheer ourselves up in the winter time and this place looks like a winner.
