A Christmas Story the Musical at the Fox Theatre & Giveaway
The holiday season is getting better in the Metro Detroit area as the songwriting team behind the smash hit Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen and the Academy Award-winning film La La Land, bring A Christmas Story, The Musical to the Fox Theatre Detroit as part of the Fox Theatre Series.
This musical brings the classic 1983 movie to hilarious life on stage and I am so excited to offer our readers a chance to win tickets to opening night on December 20th.
A Christmas Story, The Musical chronicles young and bespectacled Ralphie Parker as he schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, an official Red Ryder® Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle (“You’ll shoot your eye out kid!”). An infamous leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a maniacal department store Santa, and a triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the distractions that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas wish. Chock-full of delightful songs and splashy production numbers, A Christmas Story, The Musical, has proudly taken its place as a perennial holiday classic for the whole family.
Tickets are on sale now and start at only $36. You can purchase tickets at 313Presents.com, Little Caesars Arena XFINITY box office and Ticketmaster.com. To charge tickets by phone, call (800) 745-3000.
Hailed by The Associated Press as “a joyous Christmas miracle,” The New York Times writes “I was dazzled. You’d have to have a Grinch-sized heart not to feel a smile spreading across your face.” A Christmas Story, The Musical premiered on Broadway in 2012 and was a critical and commercial success. The musical was nominated for three TONY Awards® including Best New Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book of a Musical.
A Christmas Story, The Musical features a festive and nostalgic holiday themed score by composer/lyricist team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (TONY Award for Dear Evan Hansen, OSCAR for La La Land), with a book by Joseph Robinette, based on the writings of radio humorist Jean Shepherd and the 1983 holiday film favorite. The tour features direction by Matt Lenz, with casting by Alison Franck. TONY Award® winner Warren Carlyle’s Broadway choreography will be reset for the tour by Jason Sparks. A Christmas Story, The Musical features scenic design by Mike Carnahan, with costume design by Lisa Zinni and lighting design by Charlie Morrison. The hounds will play themselves.

KIlove when the Dad gets a leg lamp.
We watch A Christmas Story every year and my husband and I love it. Another one of the many scenes we think are hilarious, that we love, is when Randy is over bundled up to be warm outside and says “I can’t put my arms down”. It cracks us up not only for the scene itself but because we can relate both as from when we were kids growing up in Michigan in the 70s (as for me, I was in Northern Michigan on Lake Huron which had even more extreme winters than downstate ) and we also laugh about it from when we were raising our 5 kids because I have pictures of the kids bundled so much to go play outside back in the early 90s that they could have said the same thing as Randy and if they fell down it was hard for them to roll over or get back up. They tease us and laugh just as the photos of how bundled up they were. Hahaha. All you can see is their eyes sticking out of their winter wear HAHAHA.
I also love his fantasy about the teacher loving his bb gun story.
Another great part is when they are changing the tire. Whoops!
We watch it every Christmas Eve! It’s a tradition.
Of course, the tongue on the frozen pole is classic.
Yes. My favorite part is when Santa kicks the kid down the slide.
Yes! It is always tradition to have it on when it plays for 24 hours on Christmas Eve/Day. 🙂
When he freezes his tongue to the pole
A Christmas Story is in my top 5 favorite Christmas movies! My favorite is when the leg lamp arrives. Every time I see the word fragile, I have to say out loud as “frah-jeelay”. It’s classic! Thank you so much! I would be so excited to see A Christmas Story live!
Ralphie having to try on the bunny suit from Aunt Clara and the old man saying “Get that thing off you look like a deranged Easter Bunny”.
I love the bunny suit part!!
The pink bunny suit
My family watches A Christmas Story numerous times when it’s on 24 hours year after year. One of my favorite parts is when the family goes downtown to see Santa. After waiting forever in line Ralphie gets up to Santa and forgets what he wants for Christmas to tell Santa. They push him down the slide and he climbs back up and shouts out Red Rider BB Gun. Santa says “You will shoot your eye out kid” and pushes him down the slide with his boot. Love this movie and the musical would be great to see.

Yes!!! We have watched it countless times and love it.
My husband loves it so much he will leave it on the tv all day long when they do a marathon of it. Haha.
We love all the funny parts of course which are many.
We love when everyone keeps telling him he will shoot his eye out but especially most of all when Santa does it and that when he gets the gun he knocks his glasses off and is scared he really did shoot his eye out. Haha.
We LOVE the fight scene too.
I love being a Winner of these Awesome Giveaways!
I love when he sticks his tongue to the flag pole.
