6 Super Easy and Affordable Family Fall Activities
With the summer slipping away from our hands, it seems that everything that comes after is dull and monotonous, especially for kids who are back to school and have to dedicate time to studying and attending classes. This can significantly shorten the valuable family time, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to squeeze in some quality fun for kids and parents alike. If you’re wondering how to keep the summery mood and united family, here are some fun and affordable family fall activities that will make fall the most awesome time of the year.
Apple Picking
Apples are the one of the most fall-related fruits. Although nothing compares with eating them in the combination with pie dough and cinnamon, eating a fresh apple you’ve picked by yourself comes really close. Most of the apple picking locations will ask you to pay a certain, usually very affordable price, for apple picking, but you will get more in return since you’ll have the right to eat all you can pick. Sounds like a fun new family routine, right?
Nature Hiking
Some would argue that spring is the most beautiful season of the year, but the truth is that only fall has such an astonishing number of colors on one place. In this time of the year, your family will be able to enjoy all of them. Plus, the fall temperature (unless it’s raining) is the most pleasant one for long distance hikes, unlike the summer, when you can’t make three steps without sweating and drinking gallons of water.
Making Your Own Halloween Costumes
Halloween is indubitably the most amazing day of the fall, especially for kids. Still, kids can get a bit carried away in choosing their costumes, and the parents in indulging them, so it usually ends up as the most expensive day of the fall. Turn making costumes into your own fun family activity and save some dollars as well. Collect the materials you need, brainstorm some great ideas and get started.
Everything Pumpkin-Related
Speaking of Halloween, why not carve your own pumpkins? But before you get down to making Jack-o’-Lanterns, you need to get the pumpkins, right? And there is no better way of doing that than visiting a local pumpkin patch. There, you can have a great time by contesting who’ll find the biggest pumpkin or the funniest looking pumpkins. And when you get home you can all make sweet pumpkin pie together.
Movie Marathon
A family that watches movies together – stays together, or something like that. Depending on the age of your kids you can watch some old Halloween movies or TV show specials or go for something more appropriate for younger kids. Either way, you should make this occasion truly special with snacks and refreshments, sometimes even movie-themed.
A Fun Quest
Kids are explorers by their nature, and grownups could enjoy being reminded of the times when they were competing and turning the world inside out for new knowledge and fun. You can try a seasonal search, where you go to search signs of fall throughout your neighborhood. Alternatively, a good old scavenger hunt is always a great idea, especially when you have a concrete reward. Look for the tallest tree, the smallest monument, etc. and give rewards for major findings. Make it memorable by organizing a scavenger road trip.
In the end, fall is the most inspirational season for creating art. Use this colorful and interesting ambiance to make something fabulous with your family. You can use pumpkins, apples, fallen leaves and everything you can find to create a true fall-inspired artwork.
