I’m Not The Only One
One of the negative things about living with depression and anxiety is that I always have a slanted view of situations. Even when good things happen, I always catch myself searching for the negative side of things. This often leads to frustration because some days I just want to be happy and live in the moment. For a long time, I felt that there was something I wasn’t doing that would fix that part of me. However, after many years, I am finally learning to embrace who I am.
I am not the only one who struggles with depression and anxiety and I don’t treat those that suffer in a negative manner because I understand that they are dong the best that they can. So if I can accept them, the question became why can’t I accept myself. Over the years,I have stopped holding myself to a system which I can never measure up to and instead I have tried to afford myself the same forgiveness and acceptance that I bestow upon others.
By embracing who I am, I have found freedom in living my life in spite of my depression and anxiety. I gain more confidence everyday and realize that I cannot control what happens in my life but I can control how I respond. I am not the only one who will have set-backs, trials, bad days, and negative thoughts but I am the only one who can change how I respond.
With that in mind, I encourage you to stop and think about how you judge yourself? Would you judge a friend or stranger that harshly for the same thing you are judging yourself for? If the answer is NO, then take a minute and show yourself the same grace you would show others.
Remember that you are not the only one who struggles and you deserve a break also!
