Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Movie Review
I was so excited to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in theaters last weekend. I have been waiting expectantly since I saw the first movie. I have watched every movie trailer and sneak preview that I could and counted down the days and I can tell you that you will not be disappointed. In my opinion, Vol. 2 is even better than the original. I don’t think that I am alone in this because Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opened up last weekend as Marvel’s 15th straight Number One box office hit in the US and has spent the past week working towards another box office milestone. It had a $145 million opening last weekend at the US box office and, after the UK opening at the end of April, it has only been slightly more than two weeks to cross into the half a billion dollar mark. The sequel is expected to hit the billion dollar mark before it leaves theaters and it could end up being Marvel’s most successful film of all times.
I am a fan of all the characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise but my favorite is Baby Groot. His antics in this movie were reminiscent of my toddler daughter. He was too cute to be mad at when he caused problems but you knew he shouldn’t be doing the things he was doing. I put together some of my favorite Baby Groot photos to share with you.
This sequel shows growth in the characters and we discover how they have grown together as a family. This movie will bring you laughter but you may find yourself tearing up in a few spots along the way as it touches on some feelings. We are also introduced to a second soundtrack to go with this sequel. After watching this movie, you will want to own a copy of the soundtrack for yourself. Purchase your copy of Awesome Mix Vol. 1 and Awesome Mix Vol. 2 today for your listening pleasure.
I screened the movie in 3D and normally don’t recommend paying the extra cost to see a movie in 3D. However, this time I will say that this time it is worth the extra cost. It makes the action seem more realistic and with all the special effects, colors, and backgrounds the movie comes to life in front of you.
The movie is rated PG-13, and I feel that it is an appropriate rating based on the language and sexual references in the movie. If you want a breakdown of the specifics in the movie check out Common Sense Media for a breakdown of the incidences.
Important Notice: Stay through all credits.
I know that with most movies you can get up and leave as soon as it is over and you won’t miss anything but with Marvel movies you can’t do that. They will show little excerpts after the initial credits and throughout the remaining credits. So please stay in your seat during the whole time and get ready for some funny outtakes, clips, and previews.
For all my Chris Pratt fans check out this featurette where Chris Pratt talks about his favorite prop on set (spoiler alert, it’s not a blaster!):
