Greek & Italian Culinary Adventure Awaits at Mad Greek Knoxville
I love to travel and explore new places but some of my favorite culinary adventures have been in my own town. I love to treat my taste buds to different flavors and one of my favorite cuisines is Greek food. When I lived in Michigan there was a wide variety of Greek restaurants to choose from but it was something I was missing since moving to East Tennessee. That changed nine months ago when Mad Greek opened up in Knoxville. I finally had a chance to visit and my taste buds were not disappointed the whole meal.
The Knoxville location is the third location for Mad Greek. They have two other restaurants in Bristol and Johnson City. Mad Greek is dedicated to providing a variety of Traditional Greek, Italian and American dishes so that everyone has something to enjoy! Our meal leaned more toward the traditional Greek flavors and we started off with the Zesty Feta Dip for an appetizer. The pita chips were nice and crispy and paired perfectly with the flavors in the feta dip. It provided well balanced flavors with a “back heat” that let you taste all the ingredients and then you notice the heat/spiciness without being overwhelmed.
The menu is full of delicious entree options from the classic Gyro to specialty Calzones and Strombolis. For those that want food with more of an American feel you can indulge on burgers and even pizza. On the kid’s menu, you can even find breaded chicken breast strips. We were all feeling a different craving and selected three different entrees. My husband opted for a Gyro & French Fries with Feta Cheese. The meat was tender and the homemade Tzatziki sauce provided a fresh balance to the heaviness of the pita, lamb, and beef.
My daughter was craving Italian and opted to build her own Stromboli. There were so many toppings to choose from and you can even create your own pizza or calzone. She really loved that they make their own pizza dough and liked the light and crispy crust the dough formed when it was cooked.
I had been craving traditional Greek flavors, so I opted for the Greek Chicken with Greek Potatoes. It came with a second side so I opted for French Fries with Feta Cheese. The fries were cooked beautifully and the Feta provides a light refreshing flavor against the fries. My chicken was super moist and the cheeses, onions, tomatoes, and olives combined beautifully with the Greek lemon sauce to provide wonderful flavor in every bite.
When we walked in we were greeted with a wide variety of desserts in both their dessert showcases so we knew that we had to leave room to try these delicious treats. We each choose a different dessert and no one’s taste buds were disappointed. We had the German Chocolate Cake, Baklava, and Cannoli.
All three desserts were the perfect balance of sweetness and held true to their flavor heritage. We loved the Baklava and Cannoli so much that we got one of each to take home. My daughter was only able to eat half of her cake so she brought home the rest.
I loved that the cream in the Cannoli was a traditional cannoli cream and it balanced well with the crispness of the cannoli shell. My husband said the Baklava was some of the best he has ever eaten and he is still talking about it to this day.
These are just some of the wonderful dishes that you can expect when visiting Mad Greek Knoxville. The menu is similar at each location and you will find the same flavors and profiles at all the locations. The staff is committed to providing an amazing experience from the moment you enter until you leave. You will find each dish is full of flavor and ready to take you on a culinary adventure of Greek and Italian roots. Make sure to leave room for dessert when you dine because you don’t want to miss out on their delicious confections.
