Discover the Best Places to Tantalize Your Taste Buds in Columbus
Recently, I shared with you how I enjoyed a girl’s getaway to Deer Creek State Park Lodge with my mom and daughter. While we were on our getaway, we had a chance to tantalize our taste buds with delicious eats from around Columbus. There is an amazing network of local establishments that serve terrific food that is perfect for visitors or locals. Our culinary adventures, introduced us to new flavors and spins on some of our favorites. I have compiled our favorite places and encourage you to tantalize your taste buds in Columbus with their amazing eats.
Dirty Frank’s Hot Dogs – We had lunch here our first day in town and loved the variety of hot dogs that they offered. This is a simple hot dog place that makes up in flavor what it lacks in appearance. It is affordable and a great place to grab a bite to eat on a budget. They serve traditional sides including french fries, onion rings, and tator tots but also take your meal to the next level with fried leeks, sriracha slaw, and pretzels. They have something for everyone and even serve a tofurkey veggie dog. Check out their full menu and swing on by to get your dog fix while in Columbus.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream Shop – Jeni’s takes the neighborhood ice cream stand to the next level with gourmet flavors including Goat Cheese with Red Cherries, Wildberry Lavendar, and Brown Butter Almond Brittle. Jeni’s was founded in 2002 and has 10 locations in Columbus, Ohio and other locations across the United States. They do not use synthetic flavors, dyes, or any off the shelf mixes. All of the bold flavors at Jeni’s are created naturally and leave a smooth finish. Once you try this ice cream, you will find yourself ordering it online so you can enjoy it at home. They will ship anywhere in the United States so you don’t have to worry about missing your favorite flavors.
Local Roots – I am a big fan of farm to table restaurants and love seeing restaurants support the area that they are in. At Local Roots you will find Ohio raised chicken, pork, bison, and beef. They even grow their own herbs in a small herb garden on the patio. The menu features simple offerings with bold flavors including salads, sandwiches, pizza and calzones. For a more substantial meal they also offer appetizers and entrees. Enjoy the season’s best offerings from their weekly feature menu.
The Old Mohawk – Located in the historic German Village of Columbus, The Old Mohawk is full of history dating back to 1933. It has underwent renovations and ownership changes over the years but you can still see the essence of the original building from the outside and inside. Our favorite entree here was the one pound of breaded cod that is served with wedge fries and cole slaw. The portions here are a great size and their hummus plate is a perfect appetizer or lunch. There is a wide variety of items on the menu and also offerings that change with the season.
Pistacia Vera – The Parisian Macarons brought us into Pistacia Vera but we left with a wide variety of sweet treats to enjoy during our getaway. They are must visit when you are in the German Village. They offer brunch fare as well as traditional breakfast pastries. Purchase individual desserts or a large dessert to share when you stop in for a visit. Make sure you try their delicious macarons which are available in over 10 flavors including pistachio, passion fruit, vanilla bean, and strawberries & cream.
