I received a copy of the book for free from Family Christian. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
During the holidays, we are often rushing around trying to enjoy the festivities of Christmas and cope with the stress of what it has become. However, we all need to take some time to slow down and enjoy the true meaning of Christmas. There is so much more to Christmas than the commercialism that we are too often greeted by. In An Amish Christmas Gift, readers are taken far away from our modern view of Christmas and transported to a simpler time. We are witnesses to how the Amish celebrate the birth of Christ while finding redemption, hope, faith and love.
An Amish Christmas Gift is a compilation of 3 Amish Novellas by 3 different authors. Each novella tells its own story centered around the Christmas season. Take a peak below at the individual novella information.
- Naomi’s Gift – Naomi, 24 years old, has all but given up on getting married and having children. With Christmas approaching, she is confident in the fact that she will be an old maid. However, all that changes when a young widower and his daughter arrive in town to visit family for the holidays. Her life is turned upside-down as she falls in love but wonders what God’s plan for her will be.
- An Unexpected Joy – Abigail has the habit of driving suitors away with her constant chatter. She has accepted the fact that she may not marry and is determined to gain independence by purchasing a horse. She sets out to help care for a local family’s grandmother to earn money. Meanwhile, her cousin returns from being in the English world but he is not the same person that left. She must find a way to get the bishop to let him and his family stay. All of this is further complicated with her growing feelings for Micah, the grandson of the woman she is caring for.
- A Christmas Visitor – Frannie returns to Bee County, Texas for Christmas but matters get complicated when an English friend, Rocky, follows her in order to win her heart. Frannie loves the farm boy from back in Missouri but will not leave her faith or her family. Twists and turns ensue as Rocky begins to see what the Amish life has to offer and seeks to convert. Is he sincere in his desire to convert and win Frannie’s heart and will the bishop ever let it happen?
Each of these novellas ,in An Amish Christmas Gift, drew me in and left my heart warm with hope and joy. They made me realize that there is so much more to Christmas. The discussion questions at the end of each novella, make them a great option for book club or discussion with friends.
